Club Membership 2024-25

Membership in the Alaska Speedskating Club. All skaters who skate at more than two club practices or races need to become members. There's an individual membership ($40) and family membership ($80). Membership fees help pay for insurance, ice fees, new equipment and supplies, permits, coaching, etc. All skaters are also required to sign the club’s Code of Conduct and Liability Waiver (see those 2 programs below).

Liability Waiver/Release 2024-25

This is the Liability Waiver/Release for participating in club activities. There is also a Photo Release, which is encouraged but optional. All skaters must sign the Waiver/Release and the Code of Conduct (see next Program) for the current year prior to participating in practices or races. There is no fee for the Waiver/Releases or Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct 2024-25

All participants must read, accept and act in accordance with the AKSSC Code of Conduct. This assures that participants in AKSSC-sponsored activities behave with respect, fairness, and honesty toward others. There is no fee for the Code of Conduct.

Short Track/Long Track Program 2024-25

  • Coached Short Track (ST) skating at the Kelly (O'Malley) Sports Center Saturday mornings (8:15 to 9:45) and Tuesday evenings (7 to 8) from mid-Sept to mid-March. Starting October 26 most Saturday ST sessions will be at the Sullivan Arena Saturdays. Check the Club calendar for practice location.
  • Coached Long Track (LT) practices at the 400-meter oval in the Cuddy Midtown Park on Thursday evenings (6:30 to 8) once there's ice on the oval, usually late November.
  • See the Club calendar for specific dates/locations.
  • There are 54 scheduled ST sessions and 11 LT sessions, for a total of 63.
  • Included in the program fee is ST and LT ice costs, and coaching in both ST and LT skating.
  • There are a variety of program fee options based on age, individual vs family, full vs half season, and regular vs occasional skating. There is a 2-session introductory option.
  • The first half of the season runs from September 14 to December 21, 2024, and the second half of the season runs from December 28 to March 22, 2025. Monthly payment plans are available if you sign up for the full season. 
  • Scholarships available for financial need.
  • Skaters at all levels are welcome to join the program.
  • There is also a LT Only Skating Program and LT Races--see below.
  • All Club ST skates and safety gear are kept at the O'Malley rink. To get set up with skates and gear for your first skating session, you'll need to come to a Tuesday practice at O'Malley.
